FISHING FOREVER REPORT - LOWER MAINLAND 2004

A project of the BCWF & Lower Mainland Region Club Members

On June 6, 2004 - at Green Timbers Park in Surrey - we conducted our fourth Annual Fishing Forever Event held in the Lower Mainland. It was a delightful, enjoyable day for all concerned. We provided a day of enjoyment for 52 disabled participants. While rain had been predicted, apart from a brief sprinkle, it held off and the sun shone on us all. Fishing was the best we have ever experienced and made this year's event absolutely fantastic.

We had little problem; A disabled guest wanting to get his chair closer to the water, created a minor panic, when he released the brakes on his wheelchair. Unfortunately this action resulted in both boy and chair rolling into the water. Don Paterson was close at hand and ran into the lake for the speedy rescue assisted by Ed Black and John Turner who helped get the wayward wheelchair back on dry land.

BCWF staff and warm-hearted volunteers from seven Lower Mainland Clubs helped ensure a good time for our visitors. The clubs represented were: Richmond Rod & Gun Club, Nicomekl Enhancement Fish & Game Club, North Shore Fish & Game Club, North Burnaby Fish and Game Club, Ridgedale Rod & Gun Club, Semiahmoo fish & Game Club and Delta Ladner Rod & Gun Club. White Spot provided coffee, juice and muffins, and we followed up with barbecued hotdogs and a lovely decorated cake supplied by Safeway.

Thanks to all thirty-eight volunteers:

Rick & Judy Adsit, Otto & Marnie Andersen - who drove down from Vernon for the event, Chuck Austin, Gary Baker, Liz & Gordon Bond, Brian Borrett - who traveled from Parksville on Vancouver Island., Ed & Jeannie Black, Frank & June Fathers, Rita Frederiksen, Jim Marion & Debbie Helsdon, Shaun Hollingsworth, Judith McBride, Frank McKenna, Ken McLeod, Malcolm MacFarland - who provided the rod holder sticks as well as taking photographs of our adventure, Dave McGeachie - requires special thanks for his fishing expertise and patience as he kept several ladies and gentlemen busy catching fish throughout the day. Sue Parker, Don Paterson, Joe Raschendorfer, Fred Scavington, John Schleimer, Kurt & Hilda Schumacher - took video footage of the day's proceedings, Mike Thorne, John Turner, Kirsten Wansleeben, Drew Waska, Albert Wood, John Wood - who brought along his barbecue, Chuck Young and Dennis Zentner. We could not undertake this event without the support of volunteers.
